John Bonham- John Henry "Bonzo" Bonham (May 31, 1948 – September 25, 1980) was an English drummer and member of the band Led Zeppelin. He was well-known for his influence, fast right foot, individual sound and "feel" for the groove. Bonham is described by the Encyclopędia Britannica as "the perfect representation for all hard rock drummers that have followed him".


Rock Musician John Bonham. He gained broad approval and disrepute as the drummer of the seminal rock band "Led Zeppelin". Bonham was born in Redditch, Worcestershire, England. He first learn how to play drums at the age of five, assembly a drum kit out of containers and coffee tins, and copying the moves of his idols Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich. His mother Joan gave him a snare drum at the age of ten. Bonham received his first proper drum kit from his father at the age of fifteen. The drummer - nicknamed 'Bonzo' after the dog in a British comic strip - never took any drum education though as a teen would knock on the doors of other drummers and ask for suggestion.


 After finishing school, he worked for his father in construction while drumming for local bands in his off time. In 1964, he joined the band "Terry Webb and the Spiders", followed by stints with bands "The Nicky James Movement", "A Way Of Life", "Steve Brett and the Mavericks", "The Blue Star Trio", and "The Senators', who released a reasonably flourishing single ‘She's a Mod'. John Bonham then joined the "Crawling King Snakes" fronted by singer Pobert Plant. When Plant formed "Band Of Joy", Bonham was first choice as drummer. When guitarist Jimmy Page started to rebuild a group after his successful band "The Yardbirds" broke up, Robert Plant was recommended to him, who in turn recommended John Bonham, who had developed a reputation for the loudest rock drummer in Great Britain. With bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones, the newly-formed banned was called "The New Yardbirds". Told at one point they would "go over like a lead balloon", the band name was changed to "Led Zeppelin". Several of the band's songs featured Bonham's unique drum solos, which could last up to thirty minutes.

 Bonham used the longest and heaviest sticks available, which he referred to as "trees." His hard hitting style was displayed to great effect on many Led Zeppelin songs, He continuously explored his craft, and was among the first to include congas, timpani, and drum synthesizers in his kit. He appeared in the film ‘Son of Dracula' in 1974 and the Led Zeppelin Concert film. In 1974, Bonham appeared in the film Son of Dracula, playing drums in Count Downe's (Harry Nilsson) backing band. This was an Apple film made by Ringo Starr. Bonham appeared in an overcrowded drum line-up including Keith Moon and Starr on the soundtrack album. Bonham's action sequence for the film The Song Remains the Same featured him in a drag race at Santa Pod Raceway to the sound of his signature drum solo, "Moby Dick."


During his time with Led Zeppelin, John Bonham was also an enthusiastic collector of historic sports cars and motorcycles, which he kept on his family's farm called The Old Hyde. He even bought The Plough pub in the nearby village of Shenstone, which shows signs of change work to allow him to drive his bikes or cars right behind the bar.

‘The Song Remains the Same' in 1976. Bonham also played sessions with friends and colleagues, including Paul McCartney's "Rockestra" and "Screaming Lord Sutch". Of Led Zeppelin's released albums, six achieved number one status on both the United States and United Kingdom sales charts. Known as a extremely heavy drinker, on September 24, 1980, John Bonham drank roughly sixteen shots of vodka with breakfast and continued to drink during the band's studio rehearsal. By the evening it was estimated that he had consumed approximately forty shots of vodka. After falling asleep, Bonham was put to bed where sometime during the might he aspirated his disgorge and asphyxiated. Plant's assistant Benji LeFevre and John Paul Jones found him dead the next morning. An investigation at East Berkshire coroner's court recorded a judgment of unintentional death, the cause being asphyxiation from vomit. A following autopsy found no other drugs in Bonham's body. The alcoholism that had overwhelmed the drummer since his earliest days with the band eventually led to his death. John Bonham was cremated and on October 12, 1980 interred at Rushock Parish Church, Worcestershire. A cymbal sits in front of his headstone in his memory. His headstone reads:“
Cherished memories of a loving husband and father, John Henry Bonham Who died Sept. 25th 1980. aged 32 years. He will always be remembered in our hearts, Goodnight my Love, God Bless. ”

Worcestershire parish church. Led Zeppelin officially disbanded the following December; they issued a statement saying that the band could not continue without the unique John Bonham. Bonham is is today lauded as one of the most influential rock drummers of all time and one of the most appreciated drummers in any music genre. In 1994, Led Zeppelin was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and received they lifetime achievement award from the American Music Awards in 1995. On both occasions, accepting for John Bonham was his son, Jason Bonham, who grew up to be a noted rock drummer in his own right. In 2006, daughter Zoe Bonham appeared at a tribute concert in Stockholm, Sweden when Led Zeppelin was awarded the Swedish Polar Music Prize
